Fofana scored 11 times and claimed six assists in 41 appearances for the French side last season.

And following his impressive performances for the Ligue 1 club last season, he was linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

As well as the Reds, Chelsea and Everton were also linked with moves for the Belgium international.

And speaking to Het Belang van Limburg about interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, Fofana admitted: "There was interest from those two clubs, but ultimately it wasn’t concrete enough.

"I thought about a transfer, but I think it’s more important now that I play a lot, and that has to happen at Lyon because I still have progress to make.

"Of course [I want to go to the 2026 World Cup], but I realise I still have a lot to prove.

I don’t focus on the media either, I just do what I love to do: dribble and score."
