Everton are desperately keen to improve David Moyes’ squad this summer and have tabled a bid for Malick Fofana.

The Belgian enjoyed a breakout season with Lyon, scoring 11 goals and assisting five in all competitions.

Fofana’s performances in Ligue 1 were good, but it was in Europe where the winger really thrived.

In just 10 games, the ex-Gent man scored six goals and assisted once under Pierre Sage, and then Paulo Fonseca, when the Portuguese boss took over at the Groupama Stadium.

As a consequence of his brilliant performances, Everton have made a £30million offer for Fofana, Keith Wyness told Football Insider exclusively.

However, according to The Times, despite the interest from the Toffees, the 20-year-old has his heart set on joining a side in the Champions League.

Following the departures of Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom, with the pair’s loans finishing, Moyes’ side are desperate for a new set of wingers.

Everton have had a bid for Tyler Dibling rejected, and the club have also made an offer for Fofana.

The young Southampton winger is also being tracked by Fulham, Aston Villa, and West Ham.

But as reported, Fofana favours a move to a club competing in the Champions League over a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

This comes after Johan Bakayoko moved to RB Leipzig after being tracked by Everton, and Moyes has been left frustrated at his team’s inability to replace seven players who have left so far this summer.

Football Insider Verdict

Holding a lofty goal as a footballer is a good sign.

Fofana has had a taste of the Europa League, and his desire to play at a higher level suggests he believes strongly in his talents.

However, the young winger runs the risk of joining a bigger team, and then becoming a part of the churn, you only need to look at Chelsea and how many of their young stars have drifted out of contention.

Instead, taking the route that several former Man City academy prospects have and joining a club a touch down the pecking order could be ideal for a prospect like Fofana.

Take Liam Delap, a young starlet who could have easily joined a Premier League side when he departed the Etihad.

The striker went to a club where he was the focal point, before Delap earned a big-money move to Chelsea this summer.

Fofana would be well advised to take a similar approach with a move to Everton this summer, proving himself capable of thriving in the Premier League, before then taking a step up further down the line.
