Manchester City had a very unhappy senior player in their ranks over the summer amid the club’s transfer business.
It was a busy window for Pep Guardiola’s side, who brought in the likes of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Tijjani Reijnders before the Club World Cup.
There has also been a big change in the goalkeeping department, as James Trafford rejoined the club from Burnley, before City sealed a deadline-day deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma.
As a result of the incomings, long-serving shot-stopper Ederson was sold to Fernabahce, ending his eight-year stay at the club.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes there was some real unhappiness between Ederson and Man City, which led to his exit.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the £12million Man City accepted for Ederson is a very low price.

The 32-year-old has been a stalwart for Guardiola’s side since his arrival from Benfica in 2017, maintaining his status as number one throughout.
Wyness added that City eventually decided to cut their losses and start fresh with Donnarumma and Trafford.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “£12m was lower than I expected, and it smacks of just real unhappiness between Ederson and City, with them just deciding, look, we’re going to cut our losses.
“You find that when you want to clean house, it isn’t as easy as you expect, and it becomes quite expensive when you’ve acquired what you think is great talent at high cost at the start.”

Meanwhile, Donnarumma will replace Trafford as Man City’s first-choice goalkeeper, sources have told Football Insider.
Sources say that the former PSG keeper is likely to come in and immediately become number one.
After the addition of Donnarumma, Man City now have three top-class goalkeepers vying for one starting position in the side.
The Italy international and Trafford are backed up by Stefan Ortega, who has often deputised for the departed Ederson in the past and always performed well when called upon.
