Manchester City are ready to splash £180million to land Florian Wirtz and Tijjani Reijnders ahead of next month’s Club World Cup.

City are on a mission to rebuild Pep Guardiola ’s squad after investing £180million during the January transfer window - and have made Bayer Leverkusen playmaker and AC Milan playmaker Reijnders their top targets.

Leverkusen are demanding in excess of £100million for German international Wirtz - and that has not discouraged City who could offer James McAtee as a £25million makeweight.

Milan have made it clear City will have to break the Italian club’s £56.3m transfer record they once banked for Kaka to land creative Dutchman Reijnders.

Both players will be involved in World Cup qualifiers early next month - and Guardiola would ideally like to see some business concluded before City travel to the United States for the expanded Club World Cup.

Kevin De Bruyne’s participation in the tournament is looking doubtful as the Belgian looks to conclude a deal to join another club.

De Bruyne earns in excess of £350,0000-a-week at the Etihad and his departure will give the Blues plenty of room for manoeuvre when it comes to negotiating with Wirtz and Reijnders.

Wirtz, 22, earns less than £80,000-a-week in the Bundesliga and has been identified as the perfect replacement for De Bruyne.

He has already spoken to Guardiola and Liverpool boss Arne Slot about his next move.

Reijnders, 26, signed a new five-year contract with Milan in March that is worth £96,000-a-week.

Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is expected to depart the club for Real Madrid this summer and is a big admirer of both players.

City lost the FA Cup final 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Saturday to ensure that they will end the season without a trophy, with all eyes now on ensuring qualification for the Champions League and then the Club World Cup.

Eberechi Eze scored the only goal of the final at Wembley as Palace won their first ever major trophy, with Dean Henderson saving an Omar Marmoush penalty after he escaped a VAR check for a potential handball outside the area.
