Manchester City could be set to agree a deal behind the scenes to wipe out the 115 charges they have against them.

City are currently still awaiting a decision in their case against the Premier League, after allegedly breaching financial fair play (FFP) rules between 2009 and 2018.

An independent hearing started back in September 2024 and ended three months later, but a final outcome is yet to be reached.

If Man City decide to appeal the verdict, then the case may not be settled until the end of this year.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Premier League giants may strike a deal behind the scenes.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Man City are assuring their players that the 115 charges case will come to nothing.

Erling Haaland signed a new nine-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad back in January, and he has revealed that during negotiations, he was told by the club that the legal situation was under control.

Wyness added that this is a sign of confidence from City, and could point to the fact that they are set to agree a deal that wipes out the charges.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It is another sign of confidence.

I think they are assuring all their top players that this is going to be ok and that the club’s got it under control.

“As this drags on more and more, you’ve got to think that there is some sort of deal being hammered out in the background, which is what we’ve always alluded to.

“It’s just a fascinating situation that we find ourselves in, that this has dragged on for so long, but I don’t think City could say anything else to their players?

“I still believe that somebody somewhere is trying to hammer out a deal to save face for both sides because otherwise it’s one unholy mess.

But yes, City are now saying all the right things that you’d expect them to.”

Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly set to intensify their efforts to sign Jack Grealish on loan in the final month of the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that a decision about the 29-year-old’s future is set to be made in due course.

While the initial deal is likely to be a season-long loan, the Toffees will assess his performances before making a decision about a permanent deal next summer.

Football Insider revealed on 5 August that David Moyes is keen to work with Grealish and believes he can get the best out of the England international.
