Manchester City will be forced to subsidise Jack Grealish’s wages for him to complete a move to Everton this summer.

The 10-time English champions signed the England international from Aston Villa for a then-British record £100million fee in 2021.

Football Insider revealed on 11 July Grealish is among three players Pep Guardiola wants to sell alongside Kalvin Phillips and James McAtee.

A wave of new signings is likely to see the winger, who wasn’t included in Man City’s Club World Cup squad, slip further down the pecking order at the Etihad ahead of the new campaign. 

Everton are among multiple clubs to have been linked with Grealish this summer, with Villa, Newcastle United, Tottenham and West Ham also believed to be interested in acquiring his services.

Recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Everton were set to ramp up their efforts to sign Grealish on a loan deal. 

That has now proven to be the case after The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on 6 August the Toffees have opened talks with Man City.

He added David Moyes’s side have approached the Manchester giants about a season-long loan deal for the out-of-favour star.

A major stumbling block in any potential transfer will be Grealish’s wages, with his deal, which expires in June 2027, believed to be worth around £300,000 a week. 

Former Goodison Park CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider Everton would have to agree a heavily subsidised deal for Grealish to get it over the line. 

He insisted Man City could have to contribute two-thirds of the winger’s wages, with the Toffees potentially paying a £10million loan fee. 

Football Insider revealed on 5 August Moyes backs himself to “rejuvenate” Grealish following his recent struggles at the Etihad.

Everton have firmly kicked into gear in this transfer window after concerns had been expressed about their lack of business. 

The Merseysiders have now completed the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea, while Thierno Barry, Carlos Alcaraz, Adam Aznou and Mark Travers have also joined the club this summer. 

Everton also remain in talks with Southampton over a deal for Tyler Dibling as they look to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
