Man City’s players are disenchanted with Pep Guardiola and they want to hear a new voice in the changing rooms, according to Richard Keys.
The Cityzens fell to a gut-wrenching defeat on the weekend (31 August) as they lost 2-1 to a combative Brighton side who overturned a 1-0 deficit.
Pep Guardiola clearly was not happy with the result but will be certainly happier after Man City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG on transfer deadline day.
Sources have told Football Insider that Donnarumma will replace James Trafford as Man City’s number one goalkeeper, likely frustrating the Englishman.
He is not the only to be potentially disengaged with the Spaniard as presenter Keys gave his thoughts on the situation at the Etihad Stadium.

On Keys’ blog (1 September), he voiced his findings from another hectic weekend of Premier League action.
Within the article, the presenter focused in on the Cityzens poor display against the Seagulls, suggesting there is more issues at the Etihad than meet the eye.

He said: “I told you the problems at City run far deeper than just missing Rodri.
He was back Sunday of course, yet City still looked miles off.
And him missing last season wasn’t the reason they were so poor.”
Keys then turned to the position of the former Barcelona manager amid the poor performances in the last two games, stating: “There’s plenty of time for Guardiola to sort things out, but I’ll say again – I’m not sure he can – or will.
And I think his players might just be bored of him.
They perhaps want to hear a new voice around the place.”

Football Insider verdict
The previous campaign was a below-par year for the blue half of Manchester as they failed to win anything for the first time in several years.
The squad was in desperate need of transition and a rebuild considering the amount of ageing players in the team.
The summer of 2025 saw City splash the cash to bring in several fresh faces although the team will need time to gel and form long-lasting relationships both off and on the pitch.

What I found bizarre last season was how long the club waited to renew Guardiola’s contract as the Cityzens extended his deal to 2027 in November 2024.
For sure, the decision to leave the call so late suggests the board were not 100% certain about the Spaniard’s potential to keep managing the squad.
From my perspective, it seems like the ex-Bayern Munich boss will most likely leave at the end of his current deal with City definitely already in the process of finding his successor.
