Pep Guardiola is “desperate” to keep one of his best players at Man City despite growing interest in him from Real Madrid.
Guardiola has overseen a significant overhaul of his squad during the summer transfer window, with a number of long-serving players leaving, and is keen not to lose another.
Erling Haaland has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and they have once again emerged as suitors amid suggestions Haaland could be sold to fund Man City’s rebuild.
However, as I explained on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Guardiola has no intention of losing his best player any time soon.
Sources say City are confident of keeping the striker as they plan to get back to winning ways following last season’s trophyless campaign.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last year that Haaland would not push to leave Man City despite links with a move to Spain.
Since then, Haaland has signed a long-term contract at Man City and has committed his future to the club as a major part of Guardiola’s plans.

Having already lost long-serving and experienced players such as Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker during the summer, there are no plans to lose another.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “You wouldn’t have thought so, but there’s always linked with Real Madrid and Haaland.
“He’s the best striker in the Premier League, his goalscoring record tells you that, and Guardiola does not want to lose him in the middle of this rebuild at Man City.
“They’ve lost some big players already, the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Kyle Walker and others, and he’ll be desperate to keep Haaland as he aims to get this team back to where they were a couple of seasons ago, winning everything on offer.

“It’s no surprise Real Madrid are interested in him, they would love the opportunity to sign Haaland and pair him with Kylian Mbappe.
“But Man City aren’t going to be entertaining any offers for him and will be confident they can keep hold of the Norwegian.”
Haaland has been a crucial player for Man City despite their recent poor form and there are no plans to let him leave any time soon.
Haaland has been the subject of a debate over the last few days, with Guardiola and Liverpool’s Arne Slot disagreeing over who the best striker in the Premier League is.
Slot insists his new British-record signing Alexander Isak is the league’s leading striker, but Guardiola has remained adamant that Haaland is better.
Guardiola has previously labelled the Norway striker “unstoppable” while he holds the record for the most goals in a Premier League season with 36.

The striker recently smashed another record with Norway as Haaland became the first to score more than four goals in a game for his country.
With three goals in his first three games of the Premier League season so far, he is keen to continue his goalscoring form in the Manchester derby against Man United.
