Manchester United and Aston Villa fans have reacted brutally after Marcus Rashford suffered major embarrassment on his full Barcelona debut.

Rashford completed a loan move from Man United to the Catalan side earlier this summer, after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, scoring two Premier League goals before his campaign was cut short by injury.

However, Villa opted against signing Rashford on a permanent deal, and the United academy graduate instead moved to Spain.

Last week, Rashford made his league debut for Barcelona during their first game of the La Liga season against Mallorca, coming on in the 69th minute of a 3-0 win.

On Saturday (23 August), the winger made his first domestic start for Hansi Flick’s side, but was subbed off with the Spanish giants 2-0 down at half-time.

Rashford was replaced by Dani Olmo, and Barcelona mounted an impressive comback in the second half, while the England international was forced to watch from the bench.

Goals from Pedri and Ferran Torres levelled the scores shortly after the break, before a 91st minute Unai Elgezabal own goal handed Barca all three points.

Following the humiliation of being taken off at half-time, Rashford faced a mixed reception on social media, from both Barcelona and Man United fans.

Some were taunting the loanee, highlighting the fact that Flick’s side had turned the game around while he had been sitting on the bench.

One fan even argued that Rashford career at Barcelona would come to a premature end, saying: “You just know this bro is coming back to United.”

However, others defended the Englishman, questioning the decision to take him off and referencing the fact that he had performed reasonably well in the first half.
