Man United asking price blocks Andre Onana exit in fresh transfer setback

Andre Onana has fallen out of favour with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and the club have now set their asking price for the goalkeeper.
Onana has been second choice this season behind Altay Bayindir, who also hasn’t covered himself in glory so far this campaign.
With the club having now signed Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens, it seems United have their future number one, but in the immediate term it remains to be seen whether the Belgian will play.
Nonetheless, United’s transfer window action clearly indicated Amorim isn’t happy with his goalkeeper situation and as Football Insider exclusively revealed, Onana was offered to West Ham in the final days of the window.

Onana’s only start of the fledgling season came in the club’s embarrassing Carabao Cup exit away at Grimsby Town, with the Cameroonian at fault for both of Grimsby’s goals, and poor during the penalty shootout too.
The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell has now revealed the asking price United have set for Onana: “Monaco were the only club to register a real interest in him [Onana] but they were informed his price was a minimum £30 million.
Monaco declined to go further.”
Whitwell also discussed Onana’s relationship with Amorim: “Andre Onana came back to Carrington this summer wanting a new contract — he has been of that view since receiving the standard 25 per cent cut for non-qualification to the Champions League.

“The goalkeeper’s stance did not go down well with Ruben Amorim, yet Manchester United made no efforts to sell Onana,” Whitwell continued.
While they aren’t actively looking to sell Onana, it seems that the Cameroon international is on his way out of the club after his relationship with the manager has deteriorated.

Football Insider verdict
Once the club had executed their £200m revamp of the front three, it appeared that United’s efforts honed in between the sticks in goal.
It was reported that United had interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba but a deal was out of their financial reach at the time, while Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton was also monitored as United continue their trend of targetting Premier League proven talent.
Perhaps the club had their eye set on Wharton and Baleba but felt it was too early to execute the move, in which case, it makes next year’s transfer window one that could define the club’s midfield for the next 10 years.
