Manchester United’s leadership is under huge pressure to make a decision on the future of head coach Ruben Amorim after the club’s poor start to the season.
Amorim has the worst win rate of any Manchester United manager post-Sir Alex Ferguson, and that just highlights his struggles.
After the defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, reports even suggest that Man Utd players are starting to lose faith in Amorim.
With it beginning to look more and more likely that Manchester United will indeed sack Ruben Amorim, perhaps it’s time to give the Old Trafford hotseat to someone who knows what it means to play the Man Utd way.

Michael Carrick was the caretaker manager of Manchester United in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.
At the time, he said he would be happy in the role for “however long it takes” for the club to replace Solskjaer.
Now, with Amorim’s job not secure by any means, Carrick should be under consideration for the role.

He might not be the most qualified but few out there better understand what is expected of a Man Utd player and several of the players he coached briefly remain at the club.
Even if he doesn’t prove to be the long-term coach, United may need a caretaker manager again if they want time to search for their long-term replacement for Amorim
In 2021, reporters interviewed Carrick during a press conference while he was still caretaker manager.
He said: “In terms of what I’ve been told and what I understand, my thought process and mindset is preparing the team for tomorrow night and giving it my best.“

Carrick continued: “Obviously I know the club very well, know the staff very well and know the club very well.
This club has been in life for an awful long time now.
I’ll just go about my job exactly as I know and trust the people that I’ve got behind me and the staff and the players, and prepare us right, go there positive and look forward to the game.”
Man United are considering replacements for Amorim, and Carrick, unsurprisingly, isn’t one of the names on that list, but given he already knows the club inside and out, perhaps he should be.
