Manchester United supporters were impressed by what they saw from Matheus Cunha on Sunday, despite their defeat to Arsenal.

The former Wolves man made his Premier League debut for the Red Devils as Man United were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal on 17 August.

Ruben Amorim’s men displayed some positive signs against the North Londoners, but Altay Bayindir’s goalkeeping error made all the difference when Riccardo Calafiori scored for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Old Trafford club largely defended well against the Premier League title hopefuls, while wingback Patrick Dorgu was unlucky to see his shot hit the woodowrk.

Meanwhile, Cunha came close to scoring when he saw his effort from a tight angle saved by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.

The Brazil international notched 15 goals and six assists in 33 Premier League outings for his former club Wolves last term, and will hope to achieve even better numbers for Man United.

However, he will have to wait until Sunday, 24 August, when Amorim’s side travel to Fulham to make his first goal contributions for the North West club.

Alongside Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo made his Man United debut as a starter, whereas Benjamin Sesko featured as a second-half substitute.

The former RB Leipzig striker excelled in Germany, but had to settle for a place on the bench before making his first appearance in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Cunha’s presence meant that Portugal star Bruno Fernandes adopted a deeper midfield spot alongside Casemiro.

However, it was the Brazilian who attracted the attention of Man United fans, thanks to his attacking intent at Old Trafford.

After the 26-year-old’s performance against Arsenal, the Stretford Paddock wrote on X: “Matheus Cunha is absolutely ridiculous.”

Another supporter commented: “He’s gonna have us on the edge of our seats all season.”
