Manchester United have had a topsy-turvy start to their 2025-26 Premier League season, picking up four points from three games so far.

The season began brightly with a good performance against Arsenal that yielded no result as the Gunners stole away with a 1-0 win.

What followed was disappointing, as a 1-1 draw with Fulham was compounded by a penalty shootout exit to League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

Amorim’s actions after the Grimsby game were questioned and the club was in turmoil, before the Portuguese’s players dug him out of a hole with a 3-2 win against Burnley ahead of the international break.

As questions were raised around Amorim’s commitment to the job and his job security at Old Trafford, United’s managers of the past issued a wary sign to United’s hierarchy.

With United’s past appointments having no joy elsewhere, perhaps this triple firing is a sign for Sir Jim Ratcliffe, that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and to let Amorim have some time to prove his worth, before any drastic changes happen at the Theatre of Dreams.

Football Insider verdict

United’s 3-2 win over Burnley will buy Amorim time over the international break to instil further instruction into his side.

There have been signs of improvement for Amorim in the fledgling weeks of the season with promising performances at Arsenal and Burnley, but frailties still show.

The impetuous will be on Amorim to get a visible and genuine change out of his side in the coming weeks, and if that isn’t forth coming, his position may become untenable.
