Ruben Amorim is under growing pressure at Man United following a dismal start to the season, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that failure to win against Burnley on 30 August would be a “disaster”.
This comes following their defeat on penalties following a 2-2 draw with League Two outfit Grimsby Town which saw them knocked out of the Carabao Cup.
Brown warned Football Insider in April that serious questions would be asked of Amorim as a result of his refusal to adapt his style of play when things aren’t working.
Following a big-spending summer which saw heavy investment in the squad to adapt to that style, little improvement has been shown, and pressure has only risen.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in May that Amorim must take the blame for United’s struggles as he can no longer deflect from his “disaster” reign.

Following the Europa League final defeat to Spurs last season, Brown told Football Insider that Amorim retained the backing of the United board, but results must improve.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson, has insisted the boss is running out of time to repair his damaged reputation at Old Trafford.
“If you lose the first game of the season, you’re already under pressure,” he told Football Insider.
“Then a draw against Fulham, which they very much could have lost, it’s two games without a win.
“Just a few games into a new season, with a load of money spent and three new players up front, and there’s been very few signs of improvement.
“If they’d lost to Fulham, the manager would be staring down the barrel.
“As it stands, they’re already down the wrong end of the table, and all of that stuff can play on the minds of the players and the manager.

“Then, the pressure builds into the third game, the cup game where they couldn’t really afford to lose and then they lose to a League Two club, which is humiliating.
“Their next game is Burnley at home, and God forbid they should lose that one, it would be a disaster.
“But because of the stakes, the pressure and the situation as a whole, it’s not as easy as it should be and you wouldn’t be surprised to see them drop points again.
“So the manager has to do something, not just to turn results around but for the morale as well.
“Because when you’re losing games, you’re in a rut and the pressure is building, it’s a very, very difficult situation to pull yourselves out of.”
While questions continue to be asked of Amorim, speculation about a number of players remains strong, with Kobbie Mainoo’s future still uncertain.
Brown told Football Insider on 25 August that Mainoo could quit Man United as his lack of playing time in the league this season has become a “major concern”.

That is despite the inconsistent displays of the likes of Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount, Casemiro and Fernandes already this season.
As a result, he may have second thoughts, as he wants to play regular football to give himself a chance of making Thomas Tuchel‘s World Cup squad in 2026.
