Manchester United have abandoned plans to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa after they agreed a separate deal.
Martinez has been heavily linked with United all summer, with the Red Devils looking to bolster their goalkeeping ranks.
Andre Onana has failed to impress during his time at Old Trafford so far, and backup shot-stopper Altay Bayindir has also struggled when called upon.
On Sunday (31 August), Martinez was left out of Aston Villa’s squad to face Crystal Palace, adding further fuel to the rumours of a United switch.

According to BBC Sport’s Simon Stone, Man United have ended their pursuit of Martinez, who is now exploring other options.
The Argentine goalkeeper could now be set to remain at Aston Villa, if he cannot find another club in the hours before the window slams shut.
It comes after United agreed a deal to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, for a reported fee of around £18million.

Lammens is now travelling to England to complete his medical before the 7pm deadline and finalise the terms of a five-year deal.
The move may open the door for United to sell Onana, if they can find a willing buyer.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are in preliminary talks to sign Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott before the transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.
The Midlands giants are exploring both permanent and loan options to bring the 22-year-old to Villa Park.
However, sources say that Liverpool would prefer to offload Elliott permanently, rather than agreeing to a loan deal.
Before any move for the England Under-21 international can be sanctioned, Villa would have to complete the sale of Emi Buendia to free up funds and space in their squad.
