Harry Maguire’s future plans at Manchester United have been revealed amid serious interest in his services from multiple clubs this summer.

Maguire has been a wholly divisive figure at Old Trafford over the last few years, but he enjoyed somewhat of a revival last season under Ruben Amorim.

Man United shelled out £80million to sign him from Leicester City in 2019, and he has often been picked out as a weak link as they aim to return to their past glory, but was handed the captain’s armband on occasion and even scored a dramatic late winner against Lyon in the Europa League in 2024/25.

His contract was extended by the club in January [Manchester United] to run until June 2026, after it was set to expire this summer, and now he could be in line to remain at Old Trafford for even longer than that following new developments.

Former Red Devils chief scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider in May that United were planning to offer Harry Maguire a new contract at the end of the season, after the 32-year-old had proved his worth to Amorim in the second-half of the campaign.

The Mail (5 August) have now revealed that Maguire is “likely to extend his contract” at the club beyond next summer, and is also set to spend “the rest of his career” with the Old Trafford side.

They state that the Red Devils have rebuffed approaches to sign him from three Premier League clubs and two from Italy this summer, but those coming forward have been informed of the contract plan.

The 32-year-old, who sees his £190,000-a-week deal expire at the end of 2025/26, is also believed to be keen to stay at United, but The Mail claim that no talks have yet taken place over extending his contract.

Football Insider verdict

Maguire definitely had a bigger impact on United in the second-half of last term under Amorim, after only starting six games before the start of December, but he is surely set to be line for less game-time going forward as he reaches the latter stages of his career at 32.

Amorim has Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw who can all play in a back-three right now, and aside from youngster Heaven, all of those players would surely start ahead of the ex-Leicester man if they were fit and available.

The Mail’s report states that clubs in Serie A, as well as the likes of Fenerbahce, Besiktas, Galatasaray and French duo Monaco and Marseille have all registered their interest in his services this summer, and he needs to choose his next steps carefully as a result.

While he has had some good moments and been a key player at times over the last six years, Maguire is unlikely to ever reach legendary status among Red Devils fans, and his desire to stay at the club until his career ends is not going to change that.

While he would be on better money at Old Trafford than at any of those aforementioned clubs, he should definitely at least entertain a potential switch away from England either this summer or the next, as it seems a suitable and potentially fruitful move for his own career.
