Manchester United were fortunate that their goal at Fulham was allowed to stand according to a PGMOL Insider.

Fulham held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage, having to come from behind after a Rodrigo Muniz own goal had put the visitors ahead.

Emile Smith-Rowe equalised in the latter stages of the match to earn Marco Silva’s side a point to remain unbeaten.

The breakthrough came for Man United on 58 minutes after a corner whipped into the six-yard box by Bryan Mbeumo was turned into the Fulham net.

Leny Yoro leapt highest, but the final touch came off the unfortunate Muniz which wrongfooted goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Before Yoro went up for the header the defender had made contact with Calvin Bassey, with the Fulham centre-back falling to the turf.

Bassey was adjudged to have fouled Mason Mount earlier in the game which led to the penalty Fernandes skied over the bar.

Fernandes was unhappy with the referee Chris Kavanagh for making contact with him as he waited to take the spot kick in a match fuelled by controversy.

This article contains exclusive comment from former professional referee Keith Hackett.

Fulham did not protest the awarding of the Man United goal strongly and the referee was not told by VAR to have a look at the incident on the pitch side monitor.

With the referee either not seeing the incident or believing it was not a foul, the goal stood to put Man United in-front in the contest.

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett, thinks the goal should not have stood due to the contact Yoro made on Bassey when going up for the header.

“There is a push, a very clear push which should have been penalised, Hackett said.

“So the outcome is incorrect award of a goal when an offence has taken place which ought to have been picked up by VAR and acted upon.”
