Liverpool are ready to pounce if Newcastle give them the green light to sign Alexander Isak.

The Reds have had a phenomenal summer so far and it could get even better, although it will cost them another £100m at the very least.

Liverpool want Isak and Isak wants Liverpool, but now it is down to Newcastle to decide whether they let him go or not.

First, the Magpies want to source a replacement, meaning that this saga could drag on a little while longer and maybe into the back-end of August.

However, there is a chance that it does not happen altogether, with rivals Manchester United having the chance to postpone or even stop Isak from moving to Anfield full stop.

Replacing Isak is by no means an easy feat, and whoever is tasked with the job, certainly faces an uphill battle to win the fans over.

Saying this, Newcastle seem pretty confident about who they want to replace their star man, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko their top target.

The Slovenian was shortlisted by the majority of top teams this summer, but after the majority signed their top targets, he still remains at his current club and an option.

However, with Manchester United still wanting a striker, they have entered talks with Sesko according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, and could hijack Newcastle’s move.

He reports that Man United have presented their project to the 22-year-old and the decision now lies with the player himself and his camp.

This could have huge knock-on effects as if the player chooses to join the Red Devils, then Newcastle will have to restart their search for a new number nine, delaying, or even stopping altogether, Isak’s departure.

Plettenberg does conclude by saying that Eddie Howe’s side are pushing hard for Sesko, however, with Liverpool fans hopeful that he does end up at St James’ Park next season.

All the Reds can really do at this moment in time is sit back and wait, hoping that Sesko chooses Newcastle instead of Manchester United.

However, Fabrizio Romano previously confirmed that if there is a club that Sesko deemed as ‘special’ to him and he was desperate to move to, then Leipzig would lower their asking price to help facilitate a move.

Whether this will apply to Man United is yet to be seen but if so, it would help them sign the striker as his current price is likely too high for them.

This is a story to keep an eye on over the coming days, with it playing a crucial role in whether Liverpool break the British transfer record again for Isak.
