As the business end of the season draws closer, attention will gradually start focusing on how Liverpool will begin to rebuild from a disappointing Premier League title defence.

There will be inevitable calls for Jurgen Klopp to dip into the transfer market to strengthen his squad, and over the next few weeks and months there will be a host of names that are supposedly on their shortlist.

Here, we take a look at some of the latest rumours and assess whether or not they are likely to happen or not.

Who?

Ibrahima Konate, RB Leipzig defender.

Where?

According to Eurosport, Manchester United are reportedly considering whether to make a move for Konate this summer.

The report states that the Red Devils are looking to strengthen at centre-back, and have identified a list of possible options, including Konate.

It is thought United’s priority targets are Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, and failure to sign either of those could see them move for Konate, the report adds.

Konate is on a five-man shortlist of possible centre-back targets that Liverpool are looking at, as they look to strengthen at the back following an injury dominated season in defence.

What?

If United are in fact looking at a possible new centre-back, which it looks like they are, then they would be foolish not to at least consider Konate.

There’s a reason why Liverpool have him on their shortlist, and chances are other clubs will be keeping an eye on him, too.

It looks like United don’t see him as their main target, so if Liverpool do decide to pursue a deal to sign him then they shouldn’t prevent that from happening.

Who?

Harry Kane, Tottenham striker.

Where?

Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp has suggested Liverpool could move for Harry Kane this summer.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Pitch to Post Podcast, Redknapp believes the England captain could be the answer to Liverpool’s forward woes.

“Harry Kane maybe might be a player who is on their radar, who knows how Liverpool might address it.”

What?

Liverpool are likely to want a new forward this summer, but it remains to be seen what budget will be at Klopp’s disposal to bring in a new striker.

Chances are, Spurs will want in excess of £100m if not more for Kane’s services, and that would probably increase if a fellow English club was to show an interest.

Think it’s safe to rule out Liverpool making a move for Kane this summer, for now at least.

Who?

Neco Williams, Liverpool full-back

Where?

According to The Athletic, Southampton could revive their interest in signing Williams on loan when the summer transfer window opens.

Williams was linked with a temporary switch to St Mary’s on deadline day, the same day as Takumi Minamino made the move to the south coast.

Now the report states that Williams fits the profile of what the Saints are looking for in a new full-back, and could make a move for him in the summer.

What?

Williams was given his chance to be Trent Alexander-Arnold’s understudy this season.

Prior to Christmas, the Wales international was handed frequent chances when Alexander-Arnold was given a rest, but those opportunities have dried up in recent months.

What Klopp will have planned for Williams next is not yet known, but if it’s to give him more regular football then a loan move away could suit all parties.

The problem that creates is a new right-back would need to be signed as cover, which is not an easy market as Liverpool found with getting a new left-back last summer.
