Man United’s squad overhaul may see club captain Bruno Fernandes depart to pave the way for one of Ruben Amorim’s former players to move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have made positive progress towards building a side capable of achieving success in the 3-4-2-1 system their boss so adores.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha will add a goal-scoring threat from the number 10 positions, and Man United have bid for Benjamin Sesko in a bid to further strengthen their offensive options.

Additionally, whilst neither are new signings, the Red Devils will have a fully fit Leny Yoro in their backline, and Ayden Heaven remains one of the most exciting young defenders in the Premier League.
However, there are still several positions that need addressing and a major sale may help to round out the squad this summer.
The club’s former chief scout, Mick Brown, told Football Insider exclusively that Man United would be willing to accept a “huge” offer for Fernandes in what constitutes a major-surprise u-turn.

United require funds after missing out on European football, and the sale of the ageing star could fund a late splurge in the transfer market, with Amorim particularly keen on signing one of his former players.
Speaking on the Transfer Podcast on August 1, Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles revealed that Man United were keen on signing Morten Hjulmand.

Known for his tough tackling, Hjulmand has added goals and assists to his game and has quickly become one of Europe’s most well-rounded midfielders.
Four years Fernandes’ junior, the Dane lacks the goal contributions that United’s captain can offer, but the former Lecce man is a stronger defensive option.
Amorim previously praised the midfielder as being a more complete player than Tottenham’s new signing Joao Palhinha, and the former Sporting CP manager is keen on bringing the ex-Copenhagen man to Old Trafford this summer.
The one sticking point has been the 26-year-old’s €80million (£69.7m) release clause, which would have been too high for United to trigger.
But with a significant fee from Fernandes’ sale, Hjulmand would become far more affordable and he could be a key addition in the club’s attempts to qualify for Europe this season.
