With Ruben Amorim’s future hanging in the balance, INEOS have been told to bring Jose Mourinho back to Old Trafford.

The 2025-26 season has not started the way that Manchester United supporters hoped with United players losing faith in Amorim after just four games of the new Premier League campaign.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has called for United to stick with Amorim.

Yet, unless the Portuguese manager can turn things around, it will be increasingly difficult to argue his case much longer.

Former Benfica and Chelsea left-back Scott Minto has urged Man Utd owners INEOS to consider bringing Jose Mourinho back to the club if Amorim cannot take control of the situation at Old Trafford.

Minto said on talkSPORT: “I wouldn’t be against him going to Manchester United, let alone to Benfica, because they are too open.

“They are too easy to beat.

And I think he’s someone who, if you look back now, has arguably done the best job at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson.”

As crazy as it sounds to hire Mourinho to replace Amorim, the stats back it up.

In his 144 games as Man Utd boss, the controversial Mourinho won 84 (58.3%) of his games in charge.

Amorim, on the other hand, has won a smaller percentage of his matches as manager than either Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Both managers were labelled total failures and were fired.

So too was Mourinho but the 62-year-old’s reign was actually a lot better than it seemed at the time.

If Man Utd don’t improve in the foreseeable future, it would not be a major surprise to see Amorim lose his job.

The fact is that the former Sporting Lisbon coach has not improved the side in any tangible way, and after four games of the 2025-26 season, they are one place higher than the 15th-place finish they managed last season.

Whether or not Mourinho will be his successor, the pressure is on for the Red Devils to find some form and quickly.
