Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested in Brentford defender Nathan Collins.



The centre-back is attracting plenty of interest in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window, with several sides seemingly plotting moves.

United have splashed the cash on attacking reinforcements over the past few months, with Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha arriving for substantial fees to overhaul their frontline.

Ruben Amorim’s side now appear to have turned their attention to shoring up their defence, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Red Devils are interested in Brentford skipper Collins, though it could prove a tough task to negotiate a deal to acquire his services.

The Bees are expected to be ‘highly reluctant’ to part ways with the 24-year-old, though there is every chance that a bidding war breaks out for their skipper given the sheer volume of interest in the Irishman.

Liverpool are said to be long-term admirers of Collins, and unlike United, their spending is not reliant on any outgoings and thus may have the chance to avoid a sudden hijack.

In contrast,, the Red Devils are being forced to sit on their hands and wait for some of their fringe players to be sold before tabling offers for new targets, with Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho both attracting interest from AS Roma.

Chelsea are in talks to sign Alejandro Garnacho as well.

Tottenham are also keen on the Brentford star, which has been a runnig theme throughout this summer.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has been identified as the top defensive target at Anfield, but the Reds are yet to reach an agreement to sign the England international, who is happy to spend another season with the Eagles and depart as a free agent next summer instead.

Thus, it would be no surprise if Collins emerges as their direct alternative to Guehi given Liverpool’s need to sign a defender before the window slams shut – though United will be keen to put a halt to those plans given their admiration of the ex-Wolves star.
