Michael Edwards is set to leave Liverpool this summer, and according to reports, Manchester United are now interested in appointing the Reds’ sporting director.
Indeed, Leipzig are one of the best-run football clubs in Europe, and the entire Red Bull operation could be one that entices Edwards to join the east German side this summer if they can sell the project to the former Liverpool man.
Reports suggest that Liverpool’s rivals United are interested in appointing Edwards, who has been influential in the Reds’ incredible rise over the past decade with his signings playing a massive role in Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League successes.
There’s no beating around the bush here, Manchester United are a mess of a football club and their interest in Edwards makes sense given the sporting director’s incredible record at Liverpool over the years, with the Reds now miles ahead of their English rivals.
Indeed, United have a massive job on their hands this summer with Erik Ten Hag, yet the Manchester giants are far from the only side interested in Edwards, nor are they the only team who could do with the former Liverpool man’s incredible qualities, as here are five clubs who should target the sporting director.
As well as Manchester United, Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Edwards this summer, with Blues transfer mastermind Marina Granovskaia to leave the club following Todd Boehly’s takeover of the west London side, and the American could make a statement by appointing the Liverpool sporting director.
From signings such as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker to getting some incredible value from the sales of Dominic Solanke and Phillipe Coutinho, Edwards is arguably the best transfer guru currently working in England, and it makes a lot of sense why United are interested in his services.
