Steve Clarke has hinted Andy Robertson could be considering a Liverpool exit this summer.

But he has backed the Scotland captain to still feature prominently for the Reds if he stays and fights for his place at Anfield.

The 31-year-old is out of contract next summer with his long-term future at the club uncertain as a result.

While he helped Liverpool win the Premier League this season, his form was at times called into question as Kostas Tsimikas challenged him for starting opportunities.

The Reds are set to sign a new left-back this summer after months of transfer speculation, and are ramping up efforts to bring in Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth.

Robertson is aware of such speculation and has admitted he thinks Liverpool could end up signing the Hungarian.

Such an arrival would likely lead to either the Scot or Tsimikas moving on this summer.

Scotland manager Clarke has backed his international captain to still feature regularly under Arne Slot - even if the Reds sign Kerkez - as he insisted he has seen no drop-off in form from the left-back.

However, the former Liverpool assistant manager alluded to the fact that Robertson might have a decision to make about his future this summer.

"If Andy decides to stay and fight for his place, I'm sure he'll play enough," he said.

I see him coming here and playing well and I've watched him a number of times for Liverpool and I didn't see any drop.”

Robertson himself has insisted he still has plenty to offer, even if he is unsure where his future will lie beyond his current contract expiry date in 2026.

“I back myself, I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward,” Robertson told BBC Scotland.

“I've had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies, being a mainstay in the team, which I'm incredibly proud of.

"I'm not getting any younger, I can't change my age, but I still believe I've got a lot to give and that's what I focus on.

I can't tell you how I'll feel at 33 or 34, but I can tell you, at 31, I feel excellent.

"I've been fit for every game, I've not missed a training session and that's not a sign of someone who is slowing down.

“I’ve obviously got a year left at Liverpool and I don’t know what the future will hold after that.”
