Lewis Koumas, the Wales international winger, has joined Championship side Birmingham City on loan after impressing at Stoke City last season
Owen Beck continues his development at Derby County in the Championship, while Isaac Mabaya heads to League One with Wigan Athletic.
Goalkeeper Harvey Davies has joined Crawley Town to gain senior experience, and Luca Stephenson has returned to Dundee United for a second season in the Scottish Premiership.
Additionally, Vitezslav Jaros secured a prestigious loan move to Ajax, where he’s competing for the number one spot under former Liverpool coach John Heitinga.
But one loan move that has not worked out is Isaac Mabaya to Wigan Athletic.
The 20-year-old suffered a devastating Achilles injury sustained just 29 minutes into his full debut against Notts County in the Carabao Cup.
The defender was stretchered off the pitch.
Following consultation with a specialist in London, it was confirmed that Mabaya had suffered an Achilles problem requiring surgery.
The injury has forced Mabaya to return to Liverpool for treatment and rehabilitation with the club’s medical department.
Wigan confirmed he would be unavailable “for the foreseeable future,” effectively ending his loan spell before it truly began.
And Latics manager Ryan Lowe feels Liverpool should cut the loan deal short without any financial implications for his side.
Lowe has asserted that he and Wigan took a chance with Mabaya in light of his injury history, and does not want a loan space going to waste ahead of the transfer deadline:
“We will have a loan space, it will get cancelled…we’re just waiting on Liverpool to do us a favour, like they probably should, in all honesty,” Lowe said as quoted by Wigan Today.
“The kid played one game for us, and if the loan becomes not feasible, and we can cancel it, I’m sure a football club like Liverpool will hopefully do us a good deal on that?
Because it’s not fair on us, and it’s not fair on the kid.”
He adds that he has even left a message with technical director Julian Ward and hopes the Reds “do the right thing” regarding any financial implications for the loan cancellation”
“We took a chance on him, with his injury record, and I’d like Liverpool to return that favour by saying ‘okay, no problem, we’ll terminate the loan, you don’t have to pay no money,”” Lowe added.
“I’m not too sure where we are with that…I think it’s with Gregor (Rioch, sporting director), I’ve left a message with Julian Ward (Liverpool technical director) to get back to us, and I think they’ve got to do the right thing by us.”
“We’re a small club compared to Liverpool and, whatever the financials are, they can definitely help us
I’m hoping they can help us with that financial situation, for us to bring another player in.”
