Liverpool have a busy couple of months ahead of them, with some important decisions that will need to be made on the horizon.

It's already been a busy summer transfer window for the Reds, and there continues to be speculation of more new arrivals being added to Arne Slot's squad.

Five new signings have been made by Liverpool, with Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman all completing moves to Merseyside.

Even with five new additions already being completed, not to mention the impending arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Reds are showing no signs of slowing down in the transfer market.

After that, the preparations will be focused on their Premier League title defence, which gets underway on August 15 at home to Bournemouth.

Here, the ECHO looks ahead to some big decisions that may need to be made at Liverpool before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Sign a centre-back

With Jarell Quansah expected to complete a £35million move to Bayer Leverkusen, it will leave Liverpool with just three senior centre-back options in their squad.

As a result, a new central defender will need to be signed as a priority by Liverpool in the next few weeks

And one player has already emerged as a potential target for the Reds.

Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the last couple of weeks, with his current contract set to expire in 2026.

It remains to be seen what price tag Palace would seek for Guehi, as well as what fee Liverpool would be willing to pay for the England international.

Regardless, Liverpool will know that they need to sign a centre-back as soon as possible, and if Guehi is the player they want, then it would be wise to get a deal over the line swiftly.

Sign a striker

Liverpool are also rumoured to be in the market for a new striker this summer amid uncertainty around Darwin Nunez's future at the club.

A host of centre forwards have already been linked with signing for Liverpool this summer, including Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike and Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

It remains to be seen what plans Liverpool will have for the centre forward position, but all the signs point towards the Reds wanting to sign a new striker this summer.

Who that player will be remains unknown

All three of Isak, Ekitike and Osimhen have proven themselves to be clinical in front of goal over the last couple of years, and would all require a sizeable transfer fee in order to bring any of them to Anfield.

Agree Ibrahima Konate contract

Away from the business of signing new players, Liverpool must also be mindful of keeping the current members of the squad at the club as best they can.

Ibrahima Konate has now officially entered the final 12 months of his contract at Liverpool, with his deal set to expire in 2026

Konate has been linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain as a result of the speculation surrounding his future.

Liverpool had three key players enter the final year of their contracts last summer, eventually agreeing extensions for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk before Trent Alexander-Arnold completed a move to Madrid.

The Reds will want to avoid the risk of losing a key player for free next year, so ensuring an agreement is reached for Konate to extend his stay at Liverpool should be considered a priority over the next couple of months.
