One former Liverpool defender is set to feature at the Club World Cup with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.
The Cityzens are set to leave for the expanded Club World Cup this week and the former Liverpool man will be part of the backroom staff that will lead the team in the United States.
Despite going trophyless this season, Pep Guardiola’s side qualified for the showpiece event via their UEFA Champions League win two seasons ago.
City beat Inter Milan in the 2022/23 final, granting them access to this year’s expanded Club World Cup.
The Premier League side have made four new singings in preparation for the tournament.
Their new signings include former Liverpool target Rayan Cherki, alongside Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Tijjani Reijnders.
The signing of the quartet has taken City’s spending in the last six months to over €300m.
Apart from their new players, City have also made a couple of changes of their backroom staff.
The Cityzens saw three of Guardiola’s coaching team – Juanma Lillo, Carlos Vicens and Inigo Dominguez – depart the club at the end of the season.
However, Guardiola has moved quickly to find replacements, with former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders one of the new members of the backroom staff.

2 is set to join the travelling team for the Club World Cup and he will be joined by another former Liverpool man in the form of Kolo Toure.
This is according to the Daily Mail, who report that the former defender is set to join the travelling squad despite not working directly with the club’s first team.
Toure, is a coach with the club’s Under-18 team under Oliver Reiss, but is jetting off to the United States with Pep Guardiola’s squad on Thursday
