There will likely be one question on the mind of everyone at Manchester City this summer: how can we catch up to Liverpool next season?
Like in 2019/20, Liverpool’s fast start to the season meant that Pep Guardiola and his side did not really have an opportunity to enter into a title race with the Reds.
Arne Slot’s men were just too good and too unrelenting to even let the four consecutive winners have a look in.
But now with the summer now here, the Cityzens will likely break the bank to ensure they can compete next season.
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has already asserted as much, saying recently:
“We will be back.
This season is a season that’s now behind us.
Today is a new day.”
“We start working and preparing for next season?
And by the way, we’ve been doing that since January.”
“I can assure you, this club will do everything possible to come back to the standards that we know we all can achieve – and that we know we will achieve.
And while Manchester City may have pulled out of the race for Florian Wirtz, it seems they are still keen on another Liverpool-linked target.
David Ornstein has reported that Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to sign Wolves left-back Rayan Ait Nouri.
The player has been linked to Anfield from local Algerian reports, the nation which the player calls home.
The 23-year-old Algerian, who has been a standout for Wolves with 5 goals and 7 assists in 41 appearances this season, has emerged as City’s top defensive target to address their left-back needs after relying on Josko Gvardiol and Nico O’Reilly in the role last term.
Nevertheless, it’s not too much of a blow for the Reds as they seem advanced for Bournemouth Milos Kerkez – who appears the preferred target anyway.
Milos Kerkez’s arrival could open up a potential exit for Kostas Tsimikas who currently serves as Liverpool’s second choice left-back behind Andy Robertson but with the Hungarian’s arrival, it remains to be seen which player Arne Slot will appoint next season as his number one in that position.
