Manchester City are reportedly pushing to sign one right-back wanted by Liverpool.
The right-back position has become a position Liverpool may have to prioritise this summer following the news of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure.
The Liverpool vice-captain announced earlier this week that he will leave his boyhood club at the end of this season.
His departure will leave a massive hole in the squad that Conor Bradley alone may be unable to fill.
The Irishman has proven to be a quality cover for Alexander-Arnold.
However, his injury record does not make for good reading, and being the club’s only recognised right-back going into next season may be too much for him.
Several players have been named as potential names Liverpool could sign to compete with Bradley for the right-back position, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong the most popular name among the numerous options reportedly being considered by Arne Slot.
Another name that has sprung up as a potential right-back option is Flamengo right-back Wesley.
The 22-year-old Brazilian has established himself as one of the most promising talents in South American football. His attacking ability and his defensive qualities have caught the eye of several top clubs, including some of Liverpool’s fiercest rivals.
His agent recently held talks with Liverpool, who are said to have been scouting him for over a year now.
However, the situation has taken an interesting turn?
Manchester City are now said to be ‘pushing’ to take Wesley to the Etihad this summer, despite what appears to be a bogus €200 million release clause in his current deal.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio, Pep Guardiola’s side “would like to close before the Club World Cup, which will see them play in Miami after the end of the championship.”
