Pep Guardiola’s tenure at Manchester City has been marked by profound success and strategic brilliance, significantly shaped by his rivalry with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

This contest has not only heightened the excitement of the Premier League but also pushed both clubs to elevate their levels of play.

The rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp began during their tenures at Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, respectively, and intensified enormously when they took the helms at Manchester City and Liverpool.

In just a few years, their intense competition transformed the two clubs into fierce adversaries.

Under their leadership, both Manchester City and Liverpool have regularly recorded Premier League points totals well above 90, a feat that was virtually unheard of before their arrivals.

This record-setting rivalry has redefined the standards of English football, pushing both teams to unprecedented levels of performance.

However, this extraordinary competitive era is drawing to a close.

In January this year, the football world was shocked when Jurgen Klopp announced he would be stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, signaling the end of an iconic chapter in Premier League history.

And it seems that Pep Guardiola could likewise be departing soon if reports from Spain are to be believed.

Manchester City planning for life without Pep Guardiola

A report from Spanish outlet Revelo has claimed that Pep Guardiola is likely coming to the end of his story with Manchester City.

Although a final decision has not been made, it is said that the City hierachy are becoming less and less convinced that Guardiola will extend his stay in Manchester past 2025 – when his contract expires.

As such, the Manchester club are said to be preparing for life without the decorated manager.

Journalist Jorge Picon explains the situation:

“For Guardiola, professional considerations are crucial in his decision-making process, but at this stage in his career, personal factors are even more compelling.”

“After many years away from his family, living solely in Manchester, maintaining consistent motivation amidst the mental and physical toll it takes is challenging.”

“The final decision is yet to be made.”

“His strong relationship with the club’s management, particularly with President Khaldoon Al Mubarak, along with the autonomy he is granted in his role, might sway his decision.”

Furthermore, it’s believed that City sporting director Txiki Begiristain is also coming to the end of his tenure having been at the club since 2012.

If Pep Guardiola does leave in 2025, it would feel harsh for many Liverpool fans knowing that Klopp would have at least one more Premier League trophy if it were not for the Spaniard.
