Premier League sides are moving quickly this summer to get their transfer business underway.

A new exceptional transfer registration period has opened this year, as a revamped Club World Cup has Europe’s biggest clubs scrambling to bolster their sides ahead of the tournament.

Manchester City are set to play in the Club World Cup, and their first piece of transfer business seems to be reaching a conclusion.

They hoped to sign Florian Wirtz as a statement signing this summer, but the back-to-back Bundesliga Player of the season quickly expressed his desire not to head to Manchester, with a transfer to Liverpool looking extremely more likely as time goes on.

Instead, Man City have turned their attention elsewhere, to none other than Rayan Cherki of Lyon.

The player plays predominantly as an attacking midfielder or left-winger, and his versatility across these two positions makes him a desirable asset to big clubs this window.

Rayan Cherki’s stats this season are impressive.

With 44 games played across all competitions, he has scored 12 goals and registered 20 assists as he enjoys another individually successful season.

Liverpool have previously been linked with the Frenchman, but interest has cooled as they focus on other targets.

Florian Plettenburg for Sky Sports Germany has provided an update on Rayan Cherki’s situation.

He has revealed that Rayan Cherki has given his word to Manchester City, as they reach a verbal agreement.

Talks between the player and the club are positive, with Cherki ready and willing to join Pep Guardiola at Man City.

An official offer from Manchester City is now expected in the coming days.

Two of the Premier League’s most exciting clubs seem to be battling it out for the same players recently as Omar Marmoush was linked to both clubs heavily before opting for a switch to the blue side of Manchester.

After missing out on Wirtz, City will be keen to make their mark with the signing of Rayan Cherki, and they seem to be closing in on doing just that.

The new transfer window will officially open June 1st until June 10th and then will shut again, before re-opening for the usual period between 16th June and September 1st.
