The Cityzen’s 2025/26 campaign got off to a rocky start, with the champions collecting just three points from their opening three Premier League fixtures – a thumping 4-0 win at Wolves before defeats to Tottenham (2-0) and Brighton (2-1).
Doubts were creeping in about whether Pep Guardiola’s side could shake off last season’s disappointments, but City delivered a statement of intent this past weekend by dismantling Manchester United 3-0 at the Etihad.
Phil Foden’s 18th-minute header set the tone before Erling Haaland added a brace after the interval.
And while they are not favourites to win the Premier League this term as they so often have been in the past, the Manchester club appear to want to go head-to-head in the transfer market too.
The Mirror are reporting that Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to snatch Marc Guehi from Liverpool on a free transfer next summer.
The Reds had all but sealed a £35 million deal for Guehi over the summer, only for Palace to pull the plug at the eleventh hour amid fears of losing their skipper without a ready-made replacement.
Now John Cross, Chief of Football at the Mirror, reported:
“Manchester City are ready to rival Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi as a free agent next summer.”
“Liverpool will revisit their interest next summer and will feel they have a big advantage in the race to sign Guehi.”
“It was clear to all clubs in the last window that Guehi had decided his future was either joining Liverpool or to see out his contract and move on a free next summer.”
“Therefore, City were never contenders in the last window and did not rival Liverpool’s interest?
But that is set to change next summer.”
The Eagles defender is not expected to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park.
