Manchester City and Liverpool’s tug of war for staff members has now extended to players.
Laurie Shaw, previously the Director of Football Data at Manchester City and City Football Group (CFG), is set to join Liverpool as their new Chief Scientist.
Shaw, who has a strong background in data science and analytics, was responsible for leading City’s data-driven recruitment and performance strategies before being placed on gardening leave and then moving to Liverpool’s research department.
City struck back by signing Pep Lijnders less than a year after he left Liverpool, with Pep Guardiola confirming that he asked Jurgen Klopp for permission before going ahead with the deal.
Now Liverpool’s title rivals are making moves for academy talent on Merseyside.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are finalising the signing of highly rated teenager Kaylum Moss from Liverpool’s Academy, marking the club’s latest investment in youth talent.
He reports that City and Liverpool are working through key details, with a deal expected to be confirmed imminently for the 14-year-old.
Moss joined Liverpool’s Academy at under-9 level and has featured prominently in Premier League Elite Youth fixtures, as well as in friendly tournaments against top English academies.
With pre-contract agreements in place, Moss is expected to join Manchester City’s Academy setup ahead of the 2025/26 season.
