There has been a wave of changes behind the scenes at Liverpool Football Club this summer.
Arne Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp at the start of the 2024/25 season, guided the Reds to their 20th league title.
With Slot still at the helm, this summer is turning out to be more than just a reset but a deep restructuring at the club.
The Dutchman’s backroom staff has been bolstered following the departure of his former Netherlands international teammate, John Heitinga, who has been appointed as the new head coach of Ajax.
The Reds earlier confirmed the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as assistant coach in June 2025.
Bronckhorst has previously managed Feyenoord, Chinese club Guangzhou R&F, Rangers, and Besiktas and brings a wealth of coaching experience to Anfield.
Xavi Valero has also returned to the club as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching following the departure of both Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel.
Colin Stewart was confirmed earlier this week after joining the club’s coaching staff as the new goalkeeper development and pathway lead.
Having spent nine years at Glasgow Rangers, he will link up with Slot’s backroom team ahead of next season.
The youth team of Liverpool is also undergoing restructuring following the exit of Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, who stepped down from his role as head coach of the U18s team at the end of last season.
He said: “It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since I joined LFC but now it is time to move on to a new challenge.
“The Academy is a special place and it’s been an absolute pleasure to be part of the team for the past decade.
“I’d like to thank Alex Inglethorpe and Nick Marshall for giving me the opportunity and placing faith in me to move up through the age groups.
“A massive thank you, too, to all the coaching staff and the support team – being a part of players’ journeys at such an important stage of their development is a huge privilege and I’ll continue to follow their careers closely.”
Bridge-Wilkinson is set to be replaced by highly-rated Manchester United academy coach Simon Wiles.
According to The Athletic, the Reds are in advanced talks to appoint Wiles as their new under-18s head coach.
He will work alongside long-serving Liverpool academy coach Anthony Ryan, who has been promoted from his role with the under-15s to become under-18s assistant coach.
The 40-year-old joined United’s academy last September as lead coach for the under-14s following two and a half years as first-team coach at Salford City.
He spent six years at Fleetwood Town, where he worked his way up from youth development coach to first-team coach.
During his time at both Salford and Fleetwood, he had short spells as interim head coach.
He featured for Blackpool, Macclesfield Town, Dunfermline Athletic, and Barrow before his playing career was cut short by injury.
