Manchester United may not have to wait much longer to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Champions League winners PSG.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United are assessing a deal for Donnarumma with their Premier League opener against Arsenal fast approaching.

The Italy international excelled as PSG became the champions of Europe last season, maintaining six clean sheets in the Champions League.

Despite the Red Devils’ interest in the 26-year-old, PSG could have been unwilling to part company with Donnarumma.

However, ESPN revealed on Friday, 8 August, that the Ligue 1 champions have signed fellow goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

Chevalier successfully maintained 11 clean sheets in the French top flight last term, which has caught the eye of Luis Enrique’s men.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 23-year-old’s move to Paris, The Guardian [7 August] reported: “There are suggestions Chevalier will become Luis Enrique’s new No 1, casting doubt over the immediate future of the Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was part of the Champions League-winning side last season.”

The former Valenciennes man’s presence will make PSG more willing to sell Donnarumma, allowing Ruben Amorim a significant opportunity to sign the ex-AC Milan shot-stopper.

After guiding Manchester United to a poor season in the Premier League last time out, Amorim could have been destined for a miserable summer transfer window.

However, the Old Trafford giants have successfully bolstered their attack via the additions of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Meanwhile, Man United are set to sign Benjamin Sesko, whose presence can provide a remedy for the struggles his new club encountered in front of goal last season.

With Sesko nearing his Old Trafford arrival, the Red Devils’ clear priority is to sign Donnarumma as soon as possible.

A world-class goalkeeper would make the North West side a significantly stronger outfit in the Premier League.

But if Man United successfully acquire Donnarumma, they must swiftly turn their attention to facilitating player exits ahead of the new season.

Amorim still boasts Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho among his ranks, even though he wants to get rid of the trio.
