Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign one of Liverpool’s main targets this summer.
Like Liverpool, the Red Devils are set for a busy summer.
But unlike Arne Slot’s side, Ruben Amorim’s men are set for another rebuilding period after a disastrous season, where they finished in 15th place.
While Liverpool are signing new players to help them retain the Premier League title, Man United are looking to assemble a squad that will at least help them regain some of their respect.
They have been active in the transfer market, having already concluded the deal to sign Matheus Cunha?
They are also said to be in the lead for the signature of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
And according to a new report from Germany, they have now entered the race to sign Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike.
Liverpool are believed to hold an interest in the French striker as an option for the No.9 position at Anfield.
The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers following an impressive breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.
The Reds were handed a significant boost for the Frankfurt star man after Chelsea’s attempts to secure the French forward before the Club World Cup deadline collapsed.
However, according to Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool will now have to compete also with Manchester United for the siganure of Ekitike.
“Manchester United have now officially entered the race for Hugo Ekitike,” the journalist wrote.
“Manchester United made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt within the last 48 hours, expressed concrete interest, and gathered all relevant information.”
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, has made it clear that the club will not lower their €100 million (£84.3 million) asking price.
“If the price isn’t right, then he’ll simply stay with us,” Krösche said to regional paper Wiesbadener Kurier as quoted by Bulinews.
“We don’t have to sell Hugo.”
