Liverpool found out their Premier League fixtures for next season on Wednesday, but their first competitive match of the campaign will come in a different competition.

For the first time since 2022, the Reds will contest the season showpiece - The Community Shield.

That year, the King Power Stadium played host because the Women's European Championship final took place at Wembley Stadium just a day later.

The season's annual curtain raiser will be at Wembley Stadium as per usual, this year, with the FA confirming on Friday that it will kick-off at 3pm on Sunday, August 10.

Not since 2019 have Reds supporters spent the first weekend of August beneath the famous arch, with their last Community Shield appearance the following year played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

They were runners-up on each occasion - losing penalty shoot-outs 5-4 to City and Arsenal in consecutive years - after drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes.

FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, who beat the former in this year's final, are their opponents.

That, therefore, sets up the possible for Marc Guehi's first match since lifting that trophy to be at the same venue, but for the opposition.

Liverpool admire the Palace captain and the ECHO understands they have given the centre-back consideration as part of their summer transfer window plans.

Guehi has not played since the final due to an eye injury, that kept him out of their visit to Anfield on the final day and the England squad for the national team's matches in June.
