Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi has set himself an ambitious goal of playing football until he turns 40 as speculation continues over a move to Liverpool.

Guehi is one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League after producing some impressive displays at the back for Palace over the last two seasons.

He was pivotal in helping the Eagles win their first ever FA Cup trophy and now he could be set for a big move to a club in the Champions League.

Liverpool have emerged as the most likely destination for the 25-year-old as they look to find a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Talks began between the clubs last week after playing against each other in the Community Shield.

Palace could be forced to sell the player to Liverpool or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer with just 12 months left on his deal.

While his future remains uncertain, Guehi has given an interview to BBC Sport, who asked him what his targets were for the future - and his answer should impress Liverpool fans.

"Play until I'm 40.

Obviously winning trophies is great, playing in different competitions but I think that's the real testament to how professional someone is.

"Obviously there's gonna be injuries and that's always unfortunate but god willing I can play for that long in a sport that is so fleeting."

When asked if he was trying to "stay young", he replied: "Always.

That's what we're always trying to do."

Guehi has continued to be selected by manager Oliver Glasner despite the interest in him, playing him in their 0-0 draw against Chelsea on the opening day and the 1-0 win over Fredrikstad in the UEFA Conference League.

Newcastle had three bids rejected for Guehi last summer - the largest totalling £60m - while Arsenal, Tottenham and former club Chelsea have also been linked with signing the England centre-back.
