Liverpool is in the market for a new center-back, and one of the obstacles to signing Marc Guehi could be removed if Arsenal ends up signing Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

Guehi is a defender in demand after emerging as one of England's best center-backs, and he could be available for a cut-price fee this summer ahead of the expiration of his Crystal Palace contract next summer.

The Reds are facing a period of uncertainty in the center of defense, with Jarell Quansah set to leave the club to join Bayer Leverkusen, and Ibrahima Konate about to enter the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract.

Liverpool is interested in signing Guehi as a replacement for Quansah, and at 24 years old, Guehi would provide some long-term stability in that area of the field.

Arsenal, though, is also interested in Guehi, but a move to Liverpool could prove to be more appealing to the defender as there would likely be a clearer route to a regular first-team spot at Anfield.

Arsenal and Liverpool have two of the best center-back pairings in the Premier League, in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, and Van Dijk and Konate respectively.

Konate, though, could leave Liverpool next summer, which could give Guehi a pathway to becoming Van Dijk's main partner.

At Arsenal, the path is not so clear, with Gabriel having just signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates Stadium, and talks also ongoing over an extension for Saliba, whose current deal runs until the summer of 2026.

Jarell Quansah is set to leave Liverpool

And if the Gunners sign Mosquera too, Liverpool could be handed a free run at Guehi, despite interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Guehi had informed friends that he favored a move to Liverpool over both Newcastle and Spurs.

The Guardian reports that Guehi is also open to the idea of running down his contract at Palace and leaving on a free transfer next year

Liverpool has already secured the services of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez this summer, and despite the spend for those players totaling around $250 million, including add-ons, the Reds seemingly have no intention of stopping any time soon.

Liverpool is in the position to spend freely after quiet windows last summer and in January, and their budget has also been boosted by the departures of Caoimhin Kelleher and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as the impending exit of Quansah.
