The England defender had reportedly completed a medical in Merseyside and seen personal terms agreed, only for Palace boss Oliver Glasner and chairman Steve Parish to pull the plug at the last minute when no replacement arrived.
And with his deal expiring at Selhurst Park next summer, his contract situation has once again become a point of contention after the failed transfer.
The Times are reporting that Marc Guehi will reject any contract proposals and plans to leave as a free agent in the summer:
“Marc Guéhi will reject any offer of a new contract from Crystal Palace and plans to leave as a free agent when his contract expires next summer.
“Guéhi, who had agreed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions and was waiting at their London office during the latter stages of deadline day, will be able to sign a pre-contract with a club overseas in January or wait until next summer to potentially complete a move to Anfield.”
