Marc Guehi’s last-gasp move to Liverpool could yet fall through after the latest update from Crystal Palace’s end of the deal.

Guehi had travelled to Liverpool to undergo a medical ahead of his expected move to Anfield, having signed out in style, with a beautifully taken goal in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, 31 August.

The 25-year-old has entered into the final year of his contract with the Eagles, who have chosen to cash in on the England international for a fee believed to be in the region of £35million.

In response, Oliver Glasner has put AC Milan star Strahinja Pavlovic on a three-man shortlist to replace the outgoing centre-back ahead of a difficult 2025/26 campaign.

That might all be about to change, however, with Guehi’s impending move to Anfield taking a new twist just hours before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Taking to X (1 September), Fabrizio Romano wrote: “Igor Julio to Crystal Palace has collapsed as Charlie Parker-Turner says.

“The news arrived as soon as Guehi completed his medical in London as a Liverpool player.

Liverpool are now waiting for the outcome on Crystal Palace’s side.”

Despite the huge setback for the Eagles, Guehi is still very likely to be a Liverpool player before the window shuts, with Glasner having plenty of options to choose from.

Maxence Lacroix and Chris Richards have created a formidable partnership at the back, but that has only worked so well because of their captain, so the right move needs to happen now.

Igor does not seem to be the player, so Palace may well have just dodged a bullet.

Supporters at Selhurst Park were hoping to move forward after lifting two pieces of silverware, but with Guehi set to follow Eberechi Eze out the exit doors, the complete opposite has happened.

Despite the lack of signings, at least until the last couple of weeks, Palace have continued to move forward, blocking out the noise and moving to eighth in the Premier League table.

The Eagles can achieve so much under Glasner’s reign, but unless a replacement is found for Guehi, the manager could force a move away himself.
