Liverpool's chances of signing Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi could soon become clearer.

Guehi is set to enter the last year of his contract at Palace and donned the captain's armband last season, leading the club to their FA Cup glory.

Consequently, the former Chelsea defender has been strongly linked with Newcastle United as well as the Reds, and below is the latest on Guehi's future.

As reported by the ECHO, Guehi would jump at the opportunity to move to Anfield if the opportunity arose.

Likewise, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on his current situation at Palace as they assess whether a cut-price deal could be possible this summer or whether to revisit interest in a year’s time when the 24-year-old will be available on a Bosman transfer.

What may affect Guehi's future at Palace is the upcoming announcement that is expected by UEFA.

BBC Sport has reported that the governing body is expected to announce its decision on Friday on whether or not Palace will be able to compete in the Europa League next season.

Palace qualified for the competition thanks to their victory over Manchester City in last season's FA Cup final.

However, a UEFA hearing will take place this week to determine if Palace have broken any rules relating to multi-club ownership.

John Textor had a 43% stake at Palace until a deal was agreed with Woody Johnson, owner of NFL franchise the New York Jets, earlier this week.

Textor also has an ownership stake in Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, who will also be in next season's Europa League.

Textor's ownership stake in both Palace and Lyon has led to a UEFA hearing taking place to determine if the Eagles will be able to participate in next season's Europa League.

UEFA rules state that clubs which have the same owner cannot compete in the same European competition.

If Palace are deemed to have breached UEFA rules and are no longer able to participate in the Europa League, it could affect their stance on Guehi's future.

It could also impact Guehi's desire to stay at Selhurst Park, especially if the potential to play Champions League football at Liverpool is on the cards.

Former Palace owner Simon Jordan has urged the Eagles to sell Guehi this summer, insisting they stand little chance of retaining the England international’s services following interest from Liverpool.

“Isn’t this of all clubs now that the challenge is that the bigger clubs, certainly the legacy clubs, so I don’t think it’s a poor reflection on Crystal Palace,” he said on talkSPORT.

“The fact is that Palace… it’s a terrible thing that you have the vision and everyone else sees the vision when it arrives.

“So that’s a wonderful thing and that's the downside of being involved in a business where people covet what you have...

It just means that at this moment in time, this club is more successful.

“If you compare the clubs on an equal footing and a player chooses to go to a club on an equal footing in the same space, then you start to say that the club has got a problem and it's not a very sexy club to be at.

“But when you’re saying Liverpool, when Liverpool come knocking on your door as a top footballer, the Premier League champions, you go: 'I'll have a bit of that, thank you very much'.”
