While the headlines were focused on what would happen with Alexander Isak, the Crystal Palace captain also had an uncertain future.
For those paying attention, DaveOCKOP had the scoop first.
We exclusively reported back in March that Liverpool had met with representatives of Marc Guehi to discuss a transfer to Anfield.
As the summer proceeded, more outcomes were reporting of Liverpool’s interest in the England centre-back.
In the dying days of the transfer window, things picked up even more and DaveOCKOP exclusively reported that Liverpool had reached an agreement with Marc Guehi.
However, despite everyone in the footballing world expecting the transfer to be a mere formality on transfer deadline day, the move ultimately did not go ahead.
Crystal Palace were unable to bring in a suitable replacement and decided to keep the defender at the club despite his contract expiring in the summer of 2026.
That means Marc Guehi will likely leave the club on a free next July.
With that in mind, many believe that Liverpool will go back in for the defender next year when they wouldn’t have to pay a fee to bring Guehi to the club.
But a newspaper is now reporting that the former Chelsea defender wants to leave the English Premier League and move to Spain instead.
The Mirror report that Marc Guehi wants to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Madrid have been linked with a host of centre backs, including Liverpool’s own Ibrahima Konate and Arsenal’s William Saliba, and the publication say that they’re entering negotiations for Geuhi now too.
As Real Madrid are a foreign club, they can agree a pre-contract agreement with Marc Guehi in January.
Liverpool, as an English club, can’t do the same.
So either Liverpool will need to make a transfer offer for the player in January or hope that they can come to an understanding with Marc Guehi before Real Madrid get him to sign for them.
The Mirror report that Guehi has his heart set on a move to the Spanish capital and is willing to turn his back on a move to Liverpool to do so.
According to the report, the Crystal Palace has made his preference known to his representatives in what would be a blow for Liverpool.
But it could also be a blessing in disguise.
If Real Madrid sign Marc Guehi, their interest in Ibrahima Konate could cool.
Meaning that the France international could sign an extension with Liverpool instead.
Whatever may be the case, it seems that Marc Guehi will be a subject of much discussion in January.
