Liverpool transfer target Marc Guehi(Image: Chris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty Images)Emile Heskey admits he is wary of the prospect of Liverpool now losing out on Marc Guehi in January to Manchester City or Chelsea.
The Premier League champions had a £35m deal for England international Guehi break down at the 11th hour after Crystal Palace pulled the plug after failing to find a replacement before the 7pm cut-off on transfer deadline day on September 1.
Liverpool are unlikely to return in the January window for Guehi, knowing they can bring the centre-back in on a free transfer next summer.
Heskey, though, feels that might leave the Reds open to losing out to City and Chelsea, who may be able to agree a cut-price deal with Palace so the south Londoners avoid losing their captain for nothing next summer.

“Guehi will be a huge miss,” Heskey said.
It will be a big miss but how much more could they have pushed if Palace didn’t want to or have to sell?”
“All you can do is put more money on the table but then you’re moving outside of your scope of what is right for a player who is in his last year.
“Come January it will be a different proposition.
There’s no doubt that he wants to come to Liverpool.
“Now there will always be the possibility of a team hijacking the move in January.
But Liverpool is an institution and I’m sure they’re fairly confident they can get the deal done.”
Heskey, speaking to aceodds.com, added: “A lot of people have spoken about how dignified Guehi has been with his situation and that’s how it should be.
Guehi has been fantastic.

“I think it’s credit to him that he has continued playing a bit like other England players have over the years when they have been linked with moves away, such as Wayne Rooney.”
“I’m always going to be happy when a player of that ilk (Alexander Isak) and pedigree comes to Liverpool.
