Ruben Amorim will be keeping a close eye on Marcus Rashford’s form at Barcelona, as it could determine the forward’s future next summer.

Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Man United, after Amorim made it clear the 27-year-old was not part of his plans at the club.

Last season, Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan for the second half of the campaign, as the forward fights to keep his place in the England squad.

A permanent move to join Aston Villa did not materialise, but Barcelona do have an option to purchase Rashford for £26.2million.

As per Sky Sports, [24 September], Robert Lewandowski’s future at the club is uncertain, with the Poland international’s contract running out at the end of the season.

Lewandowski’s future could have a knock on effect for whether Barcelona decide to pursue a permanent deal for Rashford.

“Also to consider for Barcelona is the long-term future of striker Robert Lewandowski, who turned 37 last month and sees his current deal expire at the end of the season,” Sky Sports reported.

“Rashford’s ability to play as a No nine may come into the Barca bosses’ thinking when they consider whether to extend Lewandowski’s deal or look to sign a new permanent centre-forward instead.”

Lewandowski has two goals this season, both against Valencia following an injury-hit start to the campaign.

Rashford’s double at Newcastle in the Champions League and assists against Valencia and Getafe in La Liga means he is starting to hit some form.

So far, Rashford has been utilised on the flanks, but the forward is versatile across the front line and can play as a striker.

Lyall Thomas on X, [24 September] reports that Barcelona are currently “delighted” with Rashford.

“Barcelona are delighted by the progress Marcus Rashford has shown already, on the pitch and settling into the club and the city,” Thomas said.

“The potential for a permanent move from Man United is not expected to be discussed until next summer, with an option price already agreed in the loan.”

The news will be of delight for Amorim who was keen to sell Rashford in the summer, and would welcome the transfer fee to boost his budget.
