Mark Goldbridge believe Alexis MacAllister, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice are the top contenders for Premier League Player of the Year.

There have been several standout stars in the 2023/24 season and it remains to be seen who will scoop the individual awards at the end of the campaign.

The likes of Manchester City stars Erling Haaland and Phil Foden will certainly be in contention, as will Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

But asked for his top three picks for Player of the Year, Manchester United fan and talkSPORT columnist Goldbridge started by naming Arsenal and Liverpool stars in his three-man shortlist.

“I think Declan Rice has to be in there," Goldbridge said.

So Declan Rice has got to be in there."

Rice has been a revelation since swapping West Ham for the Gunners last summer in a staggering £105million deal.

The 25-year-old has been a driving force in the midfielder which has ultimately helped them to be in contention for the Premier League title.

The same can be said for Mac Allister who has been arguably Liverpool's best midfielder this season.

The 24-year-old, who was signed for a bargain £35m from Brighton, has thrived in an unlikely holding role.

Goldbridge added: “I would also say Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool.

I mean, £35m, it’s just ridiculous value for money and he is fundamental to Liverpool.

“We’ve seen that in recent weeks, but all season he’s been a game-changer in that midfield."

Mark Goldbridge praises Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo's debut for England, but saying 'he is the next best thing is silly'

One surprising mention was Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has been a revelation since joining the club from Empoli in the summer, despite coming under scrutiny at times.

The Italian international penned a three-year contract with the club that will run until 2028 and has certainly filled the void left by Hugo Lloris, who joined Los Angeles FC.

However, Vicario narrowly missed out as Goldbridge opted for Chelsea talisman Palmer.

Goldbridge continued: “And the third… I mean, I think Guglielmo Vicario at Spurs has been brilliant, even though he’s had a bit of stick recently.

Another to come under the spotlight is Palmer, who swapped Man City for Chelsea, and been the Blues' best signing under the Todd Boehly era.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues in a £40million deal on Deadline Day after growing frustrated with a lack of opportunities at the Etihad.

Palmer has been a bright spark in a disappointing Chelsea team which finds itself tenth in the Premier League despite spending more than £1billion since May 2022.

“I’m going to go for Cole Palmer at Chelsea.

He’s quite comfortably been Chelsea’s best signing, and sometimes in a bad season to have a player like that, he’s been ridiculously consistent.

“I’ll probably give it to Palmer over Vicario, but I just wanted to give him a shout out.

“So I’d go Cole Palmer, Alexis Mac Allister and Declan Rice, for me.”
