Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has issued an angry and emphatic response to reports that he is now considering his retirement from football.
According to a report, Skrtel agreed to have his contract with Istanbul Basaksehir terminated.
The Daily Mail said that the Slovakian - whose contract was set to expire in June - was now likely to consider retirement from the game but after viewing the headline, the player himself strongly disagreed.
For their part, Skrtel’s club have already drafted in his replacement, signing AC Milan’s 24-year-old Brazilian centre-back Leo Duarte on an 18-month loan deal.
Returning to Istanbul, Skrtel helped Basaksehir finish above the city’s traditional big three Galatasaray, Besiktas and his old club Fenerbahce to secure their first ever title last season which secured Champions League qualification – and a famous 2-1 home win over Manchester United – earlier this term.
Taking to social media, Skrtel wrote: "No f****** way" with his x-rated message supplemented by three angry face emojis.
Playing in a 2-2 home draw against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig, Skrtel was forced out of the action on 52 minutes after rupturing his Achilles.
