Man United face Everton in their final clash of the Premier League Summer Series on Sunday (3 August) evening, with Ruben Amorim’s side only needing a point to win the competition.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a successful pre-season tournament so far, with a 2-1 win against West Ham followed up by a 4-1 thrashing of Bournemouth on Thursday (31 July).

The competition’s finale sees them take on the Toffees and former boss David Moyes, who are yet to pick up a point in the USA after a 3-0 loss to the Cherries and 2-1 defeat to the Hammers.

Man United head-coach Amorim has rung the changes in each game so far, but Bryan Mbeumo is yet to make his Red Devils debut after his arrival from Brentford last month.

Amorim has faced a pre-season without first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana after he picked up a hamstring injury in training, and second-choice Altay Bayindir looks set to come back into the side in Atlanta after Tom Heaton was handed a rare start against Bournemouth.

Leny Yoro has featured in both of their Summer Series clashes so far and will likely remain in the side against Everton, while Matthijs De Ligt and Ayden Heaven could come into the team for Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.

Amad Diallo played further forward last time out but could return to right wing-back for this game, and a midfield pairing of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, who is set to remain at Old Trafford this summer, should then be flanked on the left side by Patrick Dorgu.

Matheus Cunha missed United’s clash against the Cherries through illness, but is now back fit and set to start against Everton, while the talismanic Bruno Fernandes will surely play alongside him in attacking midfield.

The Red Devils’ striker situation is an unsure one, but with Joshua Zirkzee out injured and Mbeumo still unlikely to start, Rasmus Hojlund could be handed another chance from the off, after the Danish forward impressed with a goal against Bournemouth last time out.

Football Insider verdict

Man United massively struggled last season under both Erik ten Hag and Amorim, finishing 15th in the Premier League, and their woes were compounded with a defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final in May.

Amorim has a huge task at hand to turn the tide and make the Red Devils a force in the top-flight once again, but even though it is very early days in his first full campaign in charge, the signs of change have been promising so far.

United battled hard to beat West Ham, and then blew a strong Bournemouth side away in Chicago as they scored four unanswered strikes before De Ligt’s late own goal.

They only need a point against Everton to win the second edition of the Summer Series, but will fancy their chances of another win, given their own strong form and the Toffees’ poor recent showings.

David Moyes has insisted that he needs to make up to 10 more signings this summer, and the Merseyside outfit’s lack of first-team numbers mean they look there for the taking for United right now.
