Graham Potter was sacked as West Ham manager after a torrid start to the season with the club near the bottom of the table.

Nuno Espirito Santo had emerged as the favourite for the West Ham job before he was confirmed as the new manager just hours after Potter’s departure.

Gary O’Neil and Slaven Bilic were also in contention to take over as manager but Nuno was confirmed as Potter’s replacement on Saturday.

Sources told Football Insider that legal issues had put the Potter sacking in doubt but the club proceeded with the decision anyway.

The former Brighton boss endured a horrible tenure as Hammers boss and the sacking comes as no surprise although he wasn’t given much time to implement his play style.

Speaking exclusively to Football insider, Le Tissier said: “I know the West Ham fans’ patience was running short with the manager and it has been less than a season that he’s been there.

“It’s not really enough time for a manager to implement plans and get a squad together so, I feel a little bit sorry for Graham Potter first and foremost.

“But, in today’s football there are owners who really don’t seem to have a great deal of patience anymore.”

Max Kilman could flourish under Espirito Santo and is one of the players most excited by his arrival.

The centre-back has struggled during his time at the London Stadium but will be reunited with his former boss from their time at Wolves.

Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug can also benefit from the appointment of the Portuguese given his record of turning misfiring forwards into goalscoring machines.

Both Chris Wood and Raul Jimenez flourished under the new Irons manager at Nottingham Forest and Wolves respectively and the same could happen again, especially for the German forward.
