Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly concerned about the amount of playing time he will be given at Barcelona, despite assurances from the club.

Barcelona are thought to be closing in on the Ajax defender, who sees the Catalan giants as his first choice destination this summer.

However, Liverpool are believed to have entered the race and Mundo Deportivo claim De Ligt is still considering his options.

Barcelona already have an excellent centre-back department, with Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique on the books at the club.

De Ligt is worried he may not be given a regular starting place despite Barcelona assuring him he would be a central figure in their side. De Ligt has offers from Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Ajax play their final game of the season on Wednesday night against De Graafschap, with Ajax set to be named Dutch champions.

Despite an excellent league campaign, which included a winners medal in the Dutch Cup, it was De Ligt’s performances in the Champions league that has attracted the interest of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Barcelona have already signed Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong and De Ligt is keen to link up with his team-mate in Spain.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been tracking De Ligt, and the Reds were tipped to make a late move for the defender with a view to pairing 19-year-old with fellow Dutchman, Virgil van Dijk.
